Shriners Hospital LA Literacy Carnival Event 'Car-Ni-Fair' Names Author Lisa Dunn-Dern to Executive Committee
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 28, 2008 -- Children's lifestyle expert and author Lisa Dunn-Dern has been named to the Executive Planning Committee for the 4th annual 'Car-Ni-Fair' for Shriners Hospital for Children - Los Angeles. A free, fun-filled day for patients, their guests and their families, Car-Ni-Fair blends Literacy Awareness with the importance of reading, in a magical atmosphere. An ed-u-tainment literacy fair, the event features FREE child/teen books, Magic Castle magicians, authors, book readings, therapy dogs, the wonderful Shriners Clowns and other live characters, puppeteers, carnival food and more.
Car-Ni-Fair takes place Thursday, May 8, 2008, 11:00 a.m -1:00 p.m. at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Los Angeles, 3160 Geneva Street, Los Angeles, CA 90020. In addition to patients of Shriners Hospital, children from neighboring schools will also be invited to participate.
Lisa Dunn-Dern is an advocate for children's literacy and learning, and has been recognized with awards and an endowment in her name at Seeds UES, the laboratory elementary school on the UCLA campus. She will read her latest children's book, 'Dr. Duncan Dog On Duty,' about a family's therapy dog that visits children in the hospital every week. The book has been praised by 'Entertainment Today' host and board member, Childrens [sic Hospital Los Angeles Mary Hart, and the late Yolanda King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King, among others.
Dunn-Dern produces and hosts original children's programming for ETV Ethiopian Television, and co-produces and co-hosts an Internet radio program with her teenage daughter on BigMediaUSA.com.
