Travel To Los Angeles: Hollywood With A Heart
Los Angeles might be the big budget capital of cinema, but that is not to say that the Hollywood haute and haughty permeate the city?s cultural mood on its many other levels. Los Angeles is a multilayered and multiethnic urban and suburban sprawl from the waves crashing beneath Santa Monica Pier to the snow capped mountains of San Gabriel. State of the art entertainment and arts facilities are entangled among the high rises of Downtown, the remaining bohemian hippie culture of Venice Beach and the multitude of 5 a.m. joggers, housekeepers, writers and musicians who call this City of Angels home.

Boaters Make Successful Descent of L.A. River in 52-mile Los Angeles River Expedition
A eclectic group of Angelenos successfully navigated kayaks and canoes down the full length of the 52-mile L.A. River (from headwaters to estuary) as part of the first-ever Los Angeles River Expedition 2008. The three-day exploratory expedition demonstrated that the whole river merits a determination as a "traditional navigable water" -- which would entitle the river to the highest standards of federal clean water protections under the Clean Water Act. The Army Corps of Engineers, however, still maintains that only 4 miles of the entire river can be considered traditionally navigable waters, and that boats are not allowed in the LA River, despite California public trust laws that do not support that notion. LA County considers the river a...

Seminar to Help California Employers Comply with Complex Laws Regarding Employee Leaves and Terminations
Alameda, CA (PRWEB) August 11, 2007 -- Soon, California employers can attend a two-day in-depth seminar to get practical compliance strategies for two of the most troublesome areas of employment law--employee leaves and terminations.
The 2007 Advanced California Employer Seminar (http://www.ca-answers.com/ACES), sponsored by the Employer Resource Institute (ERI) will take place at the Hyatt Regency Irvine in Irvine, California on September 10-11, 2007.
These two areas of employment law are the source of perennial confusion and legal risk for California employers. "We surveyed hundreds of organizations in California and asked what gave them the biggest headaches as employers. Their answers were clear: the complicated rules that govern employee leaves and the volatile area of terminating workers' employment," says Matthew Humphrey, General Manager of ERI.
In response to that feedback, ERI has gathered top experts in California employment law who will spend two days addressing these topics in depth. "This is not human resources 101," says Humphrey. "Both sessions will assume a high level of pre-existing knowledge and are designed for the experienced HR professional who wants to refine and expand his or her expertise in these two troublesome areas."
The instructors are experienced California employment law attorneys who know the ins and outs of the laws in this area, including the subtle nuances that can trip employers up. These experts include: Harold M. Brody, Esq. of Proskauer Rose, Kurt A. Franklin, Esq. of Hanson Bridgett, John P. LeCrone, Esq. of Davis Wright Tremaine, Myron D. (Mike) Moye, Esq. of Hanson Bridgett, Marcia L. Pope, Esq. of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, B. Scott Silverman, Esq. of Morrison & Foerster, and Jeffrey Wortman, Esq. of Seyfarth Shaw.
Conference sessions have been approved for recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR, and GPHR recertification though the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). Additionally, all conference sessions constitute California-specific HR-related continuing education activities for PHR-CA and SPHR-CA recertification. Full conference attendees are eligible for up to 12 recertification credits. The sessions are also approved for 12.5 hours of MCLE credit by the State Bar of California.
A discounted early-bird registration fee is $595 through August 15, 2007. More detailed information, including the conference agenda and registration are available at http://www.employeradvice.com/aces
