Boaters Make Successful Descent of L.A. River in 52-mile Los Angeles River Expedition
A eclectic group of Angelenos successfully navigated kayaks and canoes down the full length of the 52-mile L.A. River (from headwaters to estuary) as part of the first-ever Los Angeles River Expedition 2008. The three-day exploratory expedition demonstrated that the whole river merits a determination as a "traditional navigable water" -- which would entitle the river to the highest standards of federal clean water protections under the Clean Water Act. The Army Corps of Engineers, however, still maintains that only 4 miles of the entire river can be considered traditionally navigable waters, and that boats are not allowed in the LA River, despite California public trust laws that do not support that notion. Sovereign Nation Invites Film Production to Stay in California
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) August 2, 2007 -- According to a California Film Commission Study, the state has certain weaknesses when competing with other states and foreign countries for film production. California is a high cost state for all businesses and the film industry is not an exception in this regard. California filmmaking is also susceptible to labor unrest or strikes. This is always a possibility in any unionized industry, and each motion picture collective bargaining agreement has to be renegotiated with each union every three years. Another impediment is the presence of some local community hostility to filming activity (notably in certain parts of Los Angeles that frequently serve as the backdrop for films, television shows, and commercials). This has led to occasional production restrictions.
According to FilmStew.com Chairman, John Culton, "Most of these weaknesses can be obviated by moving your film production to a Sovereign Nation. Soboba Movie Ranch provides such an opportunity."
The new facilities, located just 85 miles east of Los Angeles, provides a diversity of filming possibilities and some easy solutions to costs, red tape, and services. The Ranch is owned by the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians and operates in concert with The Oaks Retreat and Conference Center. FilmStew.com is marketing the property to filmmakers on behalf of the Tribe.
According to the California Film Commission the largest concentration of motion picture production talent (behind and in front of the camera) can be found in California. "That's why it's important to keep film production in California," Culton says. "We will tailor an affordable program for studios and or independent filmmakers. Just let us know what you need."
The Soboba Movie Ranch is located in a quaint canyon at the base of Mt. San Jacinto. It has a diversity of topography and facilities including four major event facilities including baseball / softball diamonds; a regulation football field with bleachers and professional locker rooms; an outdoor arena suitable for any outdoor event from concerts to fights to Bull Riding; and, the Tribe also owns the Country Club at Soboba Springs, a championship golf course with picturesque setting of streams and lakes at the base of the towering San Jacinto mountains.
The ranch has over night accommodations and can comfortably house approximately 50 guests should the filmmaker need to keep a crew close by. The Soboba ranch staff can custom tailor food service needs, from cafeteria style to traditional craft services to outdoor dining and BBQs. For more information visit http://www.sobobaranch.com
