Boaters Make Successful Descent of L.A. River in 52-mile Los Angeles River Expedition
A eclectic group of Angelenos successfully navigated kayaks and canoes down the full length of the 52-mile L.A. River (from headwaters to estuary) as part of the first-ever Los Angeles River Expedition 2008. The three-day exploratory expedition demonstrated that the whole river merits a determination as a "traditional navigable water" -- which would entitle the river to the highest standards of federal clean water protections under the Clean Water Act. The Army Corps of Engineers, however, still maintains that only 4 miles of the entire river can be considered traditionally navigable waters, and that boats are not allowed in the LA River, despite California public trust laws that do not support that notion. LA County considers the river a...

Hollywood Star Shows Golden Globe Worthy Talent Before Grey's Anatomy
Los Angeles, CA (PRWeb) January 12, 2007 -- Recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her role on Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl's talent was first noticed in the romantic-comedy Side Effects, which is now available on DVD.
"I was fortunate to have landed Katherine right before she started shooting Grey's Anatomy," said filmmaker Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau. "Fans who love her as 'Izzie' will be blown away by her in Side Effects, which is all Katherine, all the time."
A smart and sexy film, Side Effects is the story of Karly Hart (Katherine Heigl) who has spent the last ten years selling drugs...legally, that is. She works for one of corporate America's darlings, the pharmaceutical industry. Karly has it all - a big salary, a company car, a closet full of hot business suits and a growing pit in her stomach. Side Effects was inspired by the writer/director's real-life experiences in the pharmaceutical industry.
"Side Effects shows off Katherine's full range of talent," said Slattery-Moschkau. "She has a natural gift for physical comedy, but also perfects the dramatic moments."
This small independent film played to sold-out crowds during a limited theatrical release in cities across the country, and received international press attention. For more information visit www.sideeffectsthemovie.com.
To arrange an interview with Side Effects director Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau, contact Cari Reisinger of Hummingbird Pictures at (209) 736-6769.
